Bill of Rights Day and National Lemon Cupcake Day

We celebrate the Bill of Rights and lemon cupcakes today. It’s a strange combo, but they’re both very good things so let’s roll with it.

Bill of Rights Day

United States Constitution Bill of Rights Day was established by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in 1941 to commemorate 150 years since the first ten amendments became a part of the United States Constitution. He wrote:

It is fitting that the anniversary of its adoption should be remembered by the Nation which, for one hundred and fifty years, has enjoyed the immeasurable privileges which that charter guaranteed: the privileges of freedom of religion, freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and the free right to petition the Government for redress of grievances.

Even if you are not an American citizen, please consider that these are what we consider to be the inalienable rights of humans everywhere. Click here to view a printable copy.

National Lemon Cupcake Day

Halfway through the traditionally chilly month of December, it’s exciting to have a taste of the tropics. Lemon cupcakes are tart and sweet and airy and moist. How wonderful to take a break from all of the strong spices and heavy sauces we usually associate with holiday fare. Click through for a wonderful recipe for lemon cupcakes.  Lemon Cupcake
