Monkey Day and Roast Chestnuts Day

Today, it’s a day for monkeying around and chomping down a holiday classic. Monkeys love to have fun and so do we!

Monkey Day

Monkey Day  Monkey Day is a day for encouraging monkey business and enjoying simian forms of entertainment such as King Kong, the Planet of the Apes franchise or even the Lancelot Link show. My kids always enjoyed Zaboomafoo. That lemur is so silly!

It’s also a day when people discuss issues having to do with primates such as medical research, animal rights and habitat loss. Some people have monkey themed parties to raise funds for charitable organizations that care for primates worldwide.

So today is a great day to fire up the Christmas tunes and have more fun than a barrel full of monkeys!

Snow Monkey
This snow monkey is taking a spa break. Maybe you should too!

Roast Chestnuts Day

Roast chestnuts have been sold by street vendors since the days of the Roman Empire. They are a nutritious treat and particularly tasty when served hot on a cold day. An important tip when roasting your chestnuts is to make sure to score the shell to prevent them from exploding as they mention in Sleigh Ride by Johnny Mathis:

There’s a birthday party at the home of Farmer Gray
It’ll be the perfect ending of a perfect day
We’ll be singing the songs we love to sing without a single stop
At the fireplace where we’ll watch the chestnuts pop
Pop! Pop! Pop!
